Meet Dr. John Heilman
Hi! I would like to introduce myself. I am Dr. John Heilman.
I graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1973. I interned for a couple of years at the Valleybrook Chiropractic Clinic in Toledo, Ohio with Drs. James and Dorothy Thompson. From Toledo, I moved to Sandusky and practiced for more than 30 years in an office at Columbus Avenue and Strub Road.
At the beginning of my career, I became acquainted with Dr. Robert Boyd from Northern Ireland. He is the osteopath who developed the biocranial work that I introduced into my own practice. After attending Dr. Boyd's second seminar in Charlotte, NC, I became an instructor myself and helped Dr. Boyd train many doctors in Columbus, Charlotte, Syracuse, and Minneapolis.
As my career continued, I became more and more interested in alternative medicine. At one time, I actually had a medical doctor working in the office with me who would rarely prescribe medications but would prescribe nutrition and chelation therapy (a way of ridding the body of heavy metals which can be detrimental to health, mostly in the area of cardiovascular disease).
After over 30 years of practice, my wife, Patty (an Optometrist) and I welcomed a set of twins, John and Gretchen, into our home. Their presence made us realize it was time to take a break from the rigors of our busy, demanding practices. We both sold our practices to devote quality time to our children.
We were devastated when our son John was diagnosed with autism when he was two. We became fixated on learning as much as we could about autism and how to treat it. After innumerable searches on the Internet and reading extensively, I was of the opinion that the team approach would produce the best results for patients with autism. I didn't really think that one practitioner could attain the same success! I realized that I, together with medical doctors who specialize in autism and homeopathic physicians, could make a contribution to the treatment of autism. We currently see a medical doctor in the Cleveland area, and a homeopath in Montreal, Canada.
In light of my son's condition and the fact that I was missing the hands-on treatment of patients, I chose to re-enter practice in November, 2007. Although I was retired from active practice for nearly four and a half years, I continued to attend many seminars. The most interesting work with which I have been associated has to be the CranioBiotic Technique, the Biokinetic Technique, and the Neuro-Emotional Technique, in addition to the cranial work taught by Dr. Boyd.
I'm glad you visited our Web site. I hope that you enjoy it, and I trust you've learned something new. If you sense that the work we do here may be beneficial to your health, please give us a call!
Yours truly,
John P. Heilman, DC
